Water Quality Testing

The Municipality of Central Elgin owns the water systems within Central Elgin. Central Elgin operates the water systems in Belmont, Lynhurst, Port Stanley and Union to ensure the safe and efficient maintenance our water systems. Areas connected directly to the City of St Thomas distribution system (Old Lynhurst and Elm, Centennial Area) are operated by the City of St Thomas on behalf of Central Elgin.

Monitoring

The Municipality of Central Elgin monitors and tests the drinking water in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. Results are shown in the annual drinking water system reports.

Clearing Discoloured Water

Minerals naturally found in groundwater or from the corrosion of older iron pipes is usually the cause of discoloured water. These minerals can be disturbed during fire hydrant maintenance or when water mains are flushed for Municipal-operated water systems. To clear it from your water line, run the cold water tap in your home for five minutes.

Private Wells

To be sure your drinking water is safe you should test your well water at least three times per year. Pick up and drop off water sample bottles at the Southwestern Public Health Unit in St. Thomas. Public health inspectors can help interpret your results and provide guidance on any corrective action needed.
