Wildlife in Central Elgin
Wild animals are a natural part of life in Central Elgin. Our healthy, local wildlife thrive in forests, fields, and along the Lake Erie shoreline and they are best left undisturbed. Many of Central Elgin’s natural spaces are interconnected, forming important corridors that support animal movement and help preserve biodiversity in our region.
Residents are encouraged to learn more about the wildlife in our community to ensure we can safely and respectfully share our environment.
It’s important to help keep wildlife wild. Never feed wild animals. Human food lacks the nutrition they need and can cause serious health issues. Wildlife in Central Elgin are well adapted to finding their own natural food sources.
What to do if you find an injured wild animal or bird?
If you find an orphaned, injured, ill or displaced wild animal or bird, please contact an Authorized Wildlife Rehabilitator located in Central Elgin. They are volunteers, trained in dealing with wildlife conflicts. They can offer humane alternatives and can assist you on whether intervention is necessary. They are not a removal service.
